PonoPlayer to be available for pre-order via Kickstarter campaign beginning next week

Musician Neil Young has founded a high-fidelity digital music service, and with it an accompanying playback device soon to be available for pre-order. Entitled PonoMusic, the company encompasses both an online music store and a playback device (PonoPlayer), which is set to be available for pre-ordering through Kickstarter starting next week. The PonoPlayer offers the ability to play high-resolution digital music from both major labels and prominent independent labels, curated and archived for purchasing on PonoMusic.com. The aim is to deliver audio quality that is far superior to other audio file formats, such as the standard MP3.

The PonoPlayer will have 128 GB of storage -- enought to carry 1,000 to 2,000 high-resolution digital music albums -- with the option to add memory cards. Anticipated to retail for $400, the PonoPlayer will be available at a discounted rate during the pre-order period via Kickstarter that will behind March 15.

Kobo relaunches e-reader app for Windows 8

Kobo has relaunched its e-reading app for Windows 8 PCs and tablets last week, after its original app release was removed from the Windows Store a few months ago. The re-released Kobo for Windows 8 allows users to purchase and read books within the app, as well as "pin" titles as live tiles on the Start screen. Kobo will also launch a Windows Phone version of its app this spring.

Thats funny. Neil Young hated digital music and MP3 players ... Until he owned a company that made one. Makes me smile.
