Rumor: LG to include water, dust-proofing in G3 flagship follow-up

updated 07:43 am EDT, Mon March 10, 2014

LG could follow Samsung, Sony in adding water resistance to G3

LG's follow-up to the flagship G2 could be a waterproof and dust-proof mobile device, according to a report from South Korea. If the rumor is true, this would bring the LG G3 in line with devices from other manufacturers, such as the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5, in providing a device that can survive being splashed with water or an accident outdoors.

Sources of ET News make the claim about the extra features, with the manufacturer claimed to have called the water-proofing and dust-proofing of a device the "key features of a smartphone," alongside the camera module, with the extra protection being a core part of modern smartphone development. The report notes the support costs rise with devices that are waterproof, though this has not stopped other companies from offering the feature in their devices.

Earlier rumors of the LG G3 suggest it will have a quad HD display, a 2.2GHz octa-core processor, a fingerprint scanner, and is likely to keep the same rear button configuration as its predecessor.
