Device now reaching smaller niches worldwide
The iPhone will soon go on sale in two previously unreached countries, Serbia and Lebanon, according to several announcements. Serbia's Mobile Telephony -- also known as mt:s -- today revealed plans to carry the iPhone via Twitter, while rival Vip Mobile made an announcement through its website. The latter says it is only waiting on certification by RATEL, the agency that regulates electronics in Serbia.
The Lebanese announcement was also made through Twitter, in this case by Alfa CEO Marwan Hayek. "Our friend @BernardAzar was right once again, iPhone will be soon officially released in Lebanon by @AlfaTelecom," he writes. "Stay tuned for the date!"
In Canada, meanwhile, Québec-based carrier Vidéotron has started taking signups for customers interested in the iPhone 5s or 5c. The iPhone has been available on most Canadian carriers for years, but the addition of Vidéotron may be essential for securing a hold in the Québec market.
