Sony reveals Project Morpheus virtual reality device for Playstation 4
As was rumored last week, Sony revealed its new virtual reality device for PlayStation 4 at the Game Developers Conference today. Codenamed 'Project Morpheus', the headset aims to "deliver a sense of presence, where you as the player actually feel like you're inside the game and your emotions feel that much more real," according to Shuhei Yoshida, the head of PlayStation's software division.
The current prototype for Project Morpheus includes a head-mounted display with a 1080p resolution, and a 90-degree field of view. Featuring 3D audio technology, the headset will provide stereoscopic sounds in all directions, in real time. Though a work-in-progress, Project Morpheus is demonstrating its capabilities at GDC with The Deep, The Castle, EVE Valkyrie and Thief.
