Major consumer problems with technology 'solved' according to CEO

At yesterday's HP shareholder conference call, HP CEO Meg Whitman revealed that the company would enter the 3D printing market. An press event is scheduled for some time in June, that Whitman refers to as a "big technology announcement" regarding the nascent technology.

The CEO thinks that the hobbyist market is small and that "the bigger market is going to be in the enterprise space" for 3D printers. Of the issues she says are holding back mass adoption of 3D printing, Whitman believes that HP thinks it has "solved these problems."

Earlier in the year, HP Labs director Martin Fink wrote that the company is "currently exploring the many possibilities of 3D printing, and the company will play an important role in its development."
