Microsoft shows cross-platform Enterprise Mobility Suite

updated 02:02 pm EDT, Thu March 27, 2014

Program combines Microsoft offerings into one centrally-managed program

In parallel with the unveiling of Office for the iPad, Microsoft has also debuted a "holistic" approach to enterprise mobile device control. The new Microsoft Enterprise Mobility Suite is a cross-platform approach, encompassing Android, iOS, and Windows Phone, to control permissions, manage data access, and retain separation of personal and business-oriented data on a device, all with cloud-centric management.

The new suite includes an assortment of Microsoft technology for enterprise. Azure rights management, Active Directory services, as well as Sharepoint access and management tools are all included in the updated offering.

The new Azure Active Directory Premium delivers cloud-based identity and access management with single sign-on to over 1,000 popular software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, self-service tools for users, and machine-learning-driven security reporting and anomaly detection. Microsoft also announced additional enhancements to Windows Intune, including support for the Samsung Knox platform, Remote to My PC capability for Android and iOS devices, and support for the next update to Windows Phone.

Microsoft has changed the licensing model with this new release as well. The Enterprise Mobility Suite will be licensed on a per-user basis, rather than a per-seat basis -- eliminating the need to account for and pay licensing fees on individual devices. More information on the Enterprise Mobility Suite is expected on May 12, at a Microsoft keynote speech for TechEd North America.
