Switch brings local control to lineup, designer lamps 3d-printed

Philips has unveiled a trio of smart lighting accessories designed to support their Hue controllable lighting line. Leading off the announcements are the Hue Tap switch and a white-only variant of the Hue light called the Hue Lux. Also debuting are a trio of 3D-printed Hue Luminaires, bringing what the company calls "a piece of art to your living room."

The Hue Tap is a small switch that makes controlling Hue light scenes easier. The switch allows manipulation of a Hue product from a local switch, without the use of a smart device for control. Users can load favorite scene creations from the Hue app to the Hue Tap, or configure groups of lights onto the four buttons of Hue Tap. The device is powered through kinetic energy from the tap, and requires no source of power. Hue Tap will be available in the second half of 2014 at selected retail outlets.

Hue Lux is a bright white-only version of Hue, with its brightness controllable using a smartphone or tablet and fully compatible with the vast range of Hue apps and hardware. It will be available in the second half of 2014 at selected retail outlets, and will be accompanied by a new app update.

Philips is also launching the world's first 3D-printed smart Luminaires, a design addition to the expanding Philips Hue range. Philips says the design is intended to fuse "the worlds of light, art and technology." The 3D-printed Philips Hue table and pendant Luminaires are exclusive online offerings at the Hue website. Preorders will commence on March 31.
