updated 12:10 pm EDT, Wed April 9, 2014

Nokia 225 has up to 36-day standby time, 2MP camera

Nokia has quietly unveiled a new feature phone meant for emerging markets. The Nokia 225 is similar in style and functionality to the Nokia 220 launched at Mobile World Congress, though it offers a marginally larger 2.8-inch QVGA display, with the manufacturer calling it the "slimmest Internet phone" it has produced to date, measuring just 10.4mm (0.41 inches) thick.

Running on Series 30+ and using Nokia's Xpress Browser, the Nokia 225 minimizes data usage by sites being optimized before they are downloaded to the phone itself, claims Nokia Conversations. Apps for Facebook and Twitter are pre-installed, with games including Asphalt 6 and Assassin's Creed 3 also onboard, the phone is capable of downloading and playing video, MP3 playback, and also provides an FM radio.

The dual-band smartphone has a 2-megapixel camera on the back, Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity with Slam sharing, and can accept a 32GB microSD card for extra storage capacity. While it has a 1,200mAh battery, it is claimed that the single-SIM model provides up to 36 days of standby time, with the dual-SIM model reaching 27 days.

Shipping in the second quarter to "select markets," the Nokia 225 is priced at 39 euro ($54).
