Microsoft creates Office 365 Personal subscription for individuals

Cheaper Office 365 subscription lowers computer, tablet, user count

Microsoft has launched a new cheaper tier of its Office 365 subscription service, aimed at individuals wanting to use the productivity suite. Hinted at last month, Office 365 Personal allows for the software to be installed and used on one PC or Mac and one tablet, including the iPad version, rather than the five computers and five tablets provided in the more expensive Office 365 Home Premium, renamed to Home, subscription plan.

Though the number of devices has reduced down in the Personal edition, much of the rest of the subscription remains the same. Full versions of Office applications will be installable, as well as access via smartphones, offline storage, and 60 world minutes of calling per month on Skype. While the Home edition provides 20GB of extra OneDrive storage each for up to five users, the Personal version will offer it just for one user.

The Office 365 Personal subscription costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. For comparison, the Home version for five users costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Access to Office Online continues to be free.

...so I'm only going to pay $350 for software that I'd use for 5 years rather than $500? When I could buy a hard copy for $250 or $140 for home/student? What a ripoff.
