Photographs automatically uploaded to Eyefi Cloud after being shot

Eyefi is expanding the usefulness of its Wi-Fi-equipped SD memory cards, by launching its own cloud storage service. The Mobi SD card, released last year, will now not only wirelessly transfer photographs taken by a digital camera to a mobile device, but it will also provide the option of automatically uploading it to the Eyefi Cloud.

The card will start transferring the photographs to the Eyefi Cloud within seconds of them being taken, so long as it has an Internet connection. Able to collect files from multiple sources into one collection, the service will show images on any Internet-connected device with a browser, and will also retain the original image on its servers while serving optimized versions to the device. Photos stored on the service can be organized into groups, tagged, and be shared with others and viewable without signing up for an account.

The Eyefi Cloud service costs $49 per year, with a three-month trial provided with the new Eyefi Mobi apps on the App Store, Google Play, and the Kindle app store. The Eyefi Mobi cards themselves cost $50, $80, and $100 for the 8GB, 16Gb, and 32GB versions respectively.
