Apple releases iOS 7.1.1 to fix Touch ID, keyboard problems

updated 01:35 pm EDT, Tue April 22, 2014

Minor maintenance update

As anticipated, Apple has released iOS 7.1.1 via iTunes and iOS' over-the-air update mechanism. The code is simply a maintenance release, primarily fixing keyboard responsiveness, as well as glitches when using Bluetooth keyboards while VoiceOver is on. For iPhone 5s owners, the patch improves Touch ID fingerprint recognition.

Although Touch ID was well-received when it debuted, within a few months, some users began complaining that the feature was inexplicably failing. Apple took steps to deal with the problem in iOS 7.1, but appears to have had work left to do.

Apple TV has also received its customary one major version down upgrade, thusly, it's been upgraded to 6.1.1...though I don't think it fixes the TouchID for it! :)

Huh. Really? Only time I've ever had a problem is if my finger is wet.

I just started the iOS 7.1.1 update. When it put up the Terms and Conditions for me to agree to, it was a blank screen but for the title and the agree/disagree buttons at the bottom. I gave it a minute or so, but it stayed blank. So I just touched the Agree button, and it continued merrily on its way. Apparently I agreed to nothing at all, so I guess there are no constraints on what I can do with it now. :-)
