16.2MP sensor used in Leica T designed with Audi

Camera manufacturer Leica has unveiled a new interchangeable-lens mirrorless digital camera fashioned from a single block of metal. Made in collaboration with Audi Design, the Leica T has an aluminum unibody design that moves away from the textured finishes of older cameras created by the company, with the solid frame holding a 16.2-megapixel APS-C sensor.

Offering an ISO range of up to 12,500 and 5fps continuous shooting, Engadget notes it has a rear 3.7-inch touchscreen display with an optional electronic viewfinder accessory. Just as with other modern cameras, the Leica T includes Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time, allowing it to transmit photos to a nearby mobile device or computer, as well as providing a live view and camera controls through the iOS app.

Two lenses will be available to buy for the Leica T at launch. The Leica Vario-Elmar-T 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH is said by Leica to be a lens for "creative experimentation," while the Leica Summicron-T 23mm f/2 ASPH uses a focal length claimed to be "ideal for reportage photography."

The Leica T will be going on sale from May 26th for around $1,850 for the body alone. The two lenses are expected to sell for around $1,750 each, though an adapter will be available to use M-mount lenses on the T-mount fitting for $395.
