Microsoft-funded excavation finds mythical buried copies of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for Atari 2600

Copies of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 have been uncovered in a landfill in New Mexico. An excavation funded by Microsoft for a documentary found the collection of cartridges and packaging at a desert site, effectively confirming that Atari overproduced the poorly-received game and buried the remainder over thirty years ago, reports the Associated Press. Despite the apparent good condition of several of the cartridges retrieved, it is unclear if any are functional enough to be played.
