Seagate adds 500GB, 2TB options to Wireless Plus drives

updated 04:16 pm EDT, Tue May 6, 2014

Base cost lowers to $150

Storage maker Seagate has announced two new models in its Wireless Plus line of external hard drives. A 500GB unit lowers the base cost of the line to $150. On the opposite end of the spectrum, a 2TB option doubles the capacity of the original, and bumps pricing up to $200. The 1TB drive is still available for $180.

The drives are primarily intended for storing media files and other content in a format accessible by mobile devices, but can also be used in tandem with a desktop, laptop, or console. Each model has its own built-in battery, capable of operating for a maximum of 10 hours. The products have enough bandwidth to stream video to three devices simultaneously.

The 500GB and 2TB drives are currently only available for pre-order. Seagate claims, though, that the 2TB drive should already be on sale; it may ship on the same date as the 500GB model, which is due to launch May 9th.
