Ascend P6 has 8-megapixel front camera, 6.5mm thickness

Huawei has unveiled its latest iteration in the Ascend P series of flagship Android smartphones, at a launch event in Paris, France. The Ascend P7 follows on from the thin profile of earlier models by having a thickness of just 6.5mm, while still increasing the size of the display to five inches with a resolution of 1080x1920 and a pixel density of 445 pixels per inch.

Running Android 4.4 with Huawei's Emotion UI 2.3, the Ascend P7 offers LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, and a 2,500mAh battery inside its 124-gram (4.4-ounce) casing, which has an aluminum surround and Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the front and back of the device. Inside is a quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T processor clocked at 1.8GHz, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 64GB via microSD.

On the back is a 13-megapixel camera using a fourth-generation Sony BSI image sensor, image signal processor, with a non-spherical lens with an aperture of f/2.0, while on the front is an 8-megapixel sensor that is also able to record 1080p video. The rear camera can be ready to take an image within 1.2 seconds by double-pressing a volume button when locked, while its software allows for up to ten levels of auto-facial enhancement in its beauty mode, and a "Voice Photo" function that accompanies a photograph with a ten-second audio clip.

Huawei is shipping the Ascend P7 this month in the majority of Europe, as well as areas of Asia and the Middle East, though not the United States nor Canada. The smartphone will be priced at 449 euros ($625).
