LG display announcement, KDDI Isai FL launch hint at LG G3 details

LG 5.5-inch panel certified as QHD, likely to appear in LG G3

LG has confirmed it is producing a 5.5-inch QHD AH-PS LCD panel for smartphones, and will be using it on its forthcoming flagship device, thought to be the LG G3. At the same time, LG has launched the Isai FL through Japanese carrier KDDI, a smartphone that not only uses the panel, but is also thought to be heavily based on the LG G3's specifications.

The panel has been certified by NEMKO, a Norway-based testing and certification organization, as being a QHD screen, with LG advising a number of extra points in a press release. Said to provide the same level of brightness as a Full HD panel, it offers a resolution of 2560x1440, a pixel density of 538ppi, a thickness of 1.2mm, and a 1.15mm bezel, 0.05mm smaller than panels produced in 2013. LG itself confirms the use of the panel in a device "to be launched in the first half of the year," with the G3 being the strongest candidate. The resolution of the display also ties in with an earlier leaked image, suggesting the photograph to be genuine.

Last year's Isai was largely based on the LG G2, reports Phone Arena, with the suggestion that the newer version will follow the trend and hint at what the G3 will offer. Using the same 5.5-inch QHD panel, it has LTE-A support for up to 150Mbps, which could mean a processor in the Snapdragon 80X range, as well as 32GB of expandable storage, a rear 13-megapixel camera, and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

LG is expected to launch the G3 at an event on May 27th.
