Entry-level Moto E aimed at emerging markets

Motorola has launched a pair of budget smartphones at its London launch event. The Moto G has been upgraded to include 4G LTE connectivity instead of 3G, while the rumored Moto E has been unveiled as an even cheaper entry-level option with slightly lower specifications to the Moto G, but still manages to offer a considerable list of specifications for the price.

The Moto E looks to be similar to the Moto X and Moto G in general design, with a Gorilla Glass-protected 4.3-inch 960x540-resolution display. Inside is a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage expandable by microSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a rear-mounted 5-megapixel camera. Running on Android 4.4.2, the smartphone has a 1,980mAh battery and a selection of interchangeable backs, dubbed "Motorola Shells," providing more than 20 color and design combinations.

Motorola will be shipping the device in more than 40 countries in the next few weeks, and is priced at $129 on Motorola's website without a contract.

The Moto G with 4G LTE has received little in the way of changes compared to the original. Aside from the titular alteration, the device also has support for microSD cards, something missing in the initial release. Shipping in a similar time frame to the Moto E, the Moto G with LTE will be priced at $219, with the original continuing to cost $179.
