FCC Chair's attorney takes to Twitter, fields net neutrality questions

updated 01:52 pm EDT, Tue May 13, 2014

Move intended to assuage Internet fears of 'fast lane' provisos

Starting at 2PM ET, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Senior Counsel for External Affairs for the Chairman, Gigi B. Sohn, will be monitoring questions regarding Wheeler's pending net neutrality legislation. Using the hashtag #FCCNetNeutrality, users can submit questions, or follow the discussion led by the FCC's chairman's lead attorney.

In a statement announcing the event, the FCC claimed that "the Internet is America's most important platform for innovation, economic growth and free expression. And yet, despite two prior FCC attempts to implement and enforce Open Internet safeguards, there are no rules on the books to prevent broadband providers from limiting Internet openness by blocking or discriminating against consumers and entrepreneurs online."

The debate remains contentious, with Internet-centric companies championing complete net neutrality, and Internet Service Providers seeking to further monetize connectivity through a selective process euphemistically called "paid prioritization," such as the recent deals Netflix has inked with Comcast and Verizon. Netflix has decried the necessity of the deals.

I believe the comments were along the lines of "Shut up little people. You will like what we choose to give you."
