Budget smart TV from Xiaomi includes separate soundbar, subwoofer
Following its reveal of the Mi Pad tablet, Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has launched its second Android television. The Mi TV 2 has a 49-inch display panel sourced from LG that can show 4K-resolution content, as well as 3D video, with the television using Android to run its smart TV capabilities, including streaming video and gaming.
Inside is a Cortex A9-based quad-core processor clocked at 1.45GHz, along with a quad-core Mali 450 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage. Three HDMI inputs, two USB ports, and connections for analog TV signals, AV, and VGA are also included, with connectivity using dual-band Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth 4.0. Sound is provided by six full-range speakers and two tweeters in a sound bar, along with a wireless subwoofer.
Xiaomi is pricing the Mi TV 2 at 3,999 yuan ($640), a remarkably low price for a television capable of displaying a 4K image. While it will go on sale in China from May 27th, it is unlikely Xiaomi will enjoy a future release of the television overseas.
