Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin first to get AT&T HD Voice

AT&T will start to roll out HD Voice across its cellular network from May 23rd, the company has announced. The service, which will operate on an all-IP Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network, will allow customers to make clearer calls over its network, while at the same time being able to continue to use the device's data connection at 4G LTE speeds.

The first markets to enjoy the service will be areas of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, with the carrier stating it will be expanding on a market-by-market basis. The first device to use HD Voice will be the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, with other devices set to be added to the compatibility roster in the future.

AT&T is not the only carrier looking to implement HD Voice on its network this year. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse revealed the carrier will be rolling out HD Voice across its network starting from "around the first of July," and has already launched in a few test markets. Both lag behind T-Mobile, which introduced HD Voice on its network last year.
