Prepaid offering combines T-Mobile network and Univision content
Univision Communications and T-Mobile are joining forces to launch Univision Mobile, a wireless service designed specifically for Hispanic Americans. The new service combines programming content of Univision with T-Mobile's network. The new service will be available nationwide beginning May 19.
Walmart will offer Univision Mobile in approximately 1,800 of its stores throughout the country, as the exclusive big-box retailer of the plan. The service will also be available at 6,000 independent dealer locations serving Hispanic communities in the US. The program features unlimited international texting from the US to select Latin America countries, in addition to 200 other countries. Furthermore, 100 free minutes are included to call mobile or landline numbers to eight Latin America countries, including Mexico.
The new $45 monthly plan includes up to 2.5GB of 3G web, which is slowed to 2G speeds after passing the cap. Calls and text must originate on T-Mobile's US network to qualify for the free offer. Plans with more data are available at higher cost.
