LifeLock wallet app disabled, user data deleted over security concerns

updated 12:18 pm EDT, Sat May 17, 2014

Company concerned with aspects of app that may not be up to standard

Citing potential problems with payment card industry security standards, personal information protectors LifeLock has disabled its Wallet app and pulled it from the iOS App Store, Google Play, and the Amazon app market. Furthermore, the app is now set to delete all of the user's stored information upon opening, as an additional security method.

LifeLock CEO Todd Davis claims in a blog post that no user information has been taken. Davis writes that the company has "taken steps to delete all stored information for the mobile app from our servers. Even though we have no reason to believe the data has been compromised, we believe this is the right thing to do."

The company notes that the app will return, improved, but also is aware of the issues that it may cause with users. No timetable for a new revision of the app, fully compliant with payment card industry security standards, will be released.
