updated 10:05 pm EDT, Wed May 21, 2014

Dish Network customers can access Hopper DVR through Playstation 3 app

Dish Network has teamed up with Sony to release a Virtual Joey Playstation 3 app that allows control of Hopper DVRs through the gaming console. Through the app, the Playstation 3 speaks with the Hopper DVR over an Ethernet connection. The application eliminates the need for another set-top box, but can be controlled with the Dualshock 3 controller or a Dish remote.

Users can download the Virtual Joey app from the app section of the Playstation store. The Virtual Joey app will also make its way to the Playstation 4 in the future.

Steam's in-home streaming feature officially released to all users

Gaming platform Steam gives word that it has officially launched its in-home streaming feature to all users as of today. The streaming feature allows users to stream games from one PC in a home to another on the same network. It utilizes the hardware of the host machine to process the game, while commands are sent back by the remote computer. Even though it is billed as a feature for SteamOS, users of Windows, Linux and OS X can still take advantage of the Steam service.
