HTC One M8 Ace claimed to use plastic case to reduce cost

Two more versions of the HTC One M8 are on the horizon, rather than just one, according to new leaked images. The Prime version of the device is allegedly depicted in an animated gif, while a new model called the HTC One M8 Ace has also surfaced, suggesting the phone manufacturer will be making a slightly cheaper version of the flagship smartphone in a plastic case.

The animation from @evleaks appears to show a full 360-degree view of the Prime, with the most notable change being the slight protrusion of the rear camera out from the back. An earlier rumor suggested the Prime would have a 5.5-inch 1,440x2,560 display, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB of RAM, and would offer Category 6 LTE-A connectivity. It is also claimed the Prime would be waterproof, exchanging the all-metal construction of the M8 for an aluminum and liquid silicone composite.

The render of the Ace from ifanr has apparently been confirmed as the "real deal" by Engadget. While it is said to retain the same basic specifications as the normal M8, such as its 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and 5-inch 1080p display, it will switch out its metal body for plastic to reduce costs. It also appears the device will not ship with the Duo Camera, but it could still use an Ultrapixel sensor, and it may have also lost its IR blaster. It is believed the Ace will initially launch in China before rolling out elsewhere, but it is unknown when that would be.
