Toshiba Encore 2 includes 8-inch, 10-inch models, Windows 8.1 installed
Toshiba has introduced a trio of tablets, with one running Android and the others on Windows 8.1. The Excite Go continues Toshiba's Excite range of Android devices, while the Encore 2 tablets follow on from the original, offering 8-inch and 10-inch displays with a resolution of 1280x800 packed into a 0.4-inch device that's considerably thinner than their predecessor.

Weighing 12.5 ounces, the Excite Go's 7-inch display has the same resolution as the Encore 2 devices, backed by a quad-core Intel Atom processor. The 8GB of storage can be supplemented by microSD and SDXC cards up to 128GB in capacity, while the battery is said to last for up to 8 hours of general use, or up to 6.5 hours of video playback.

The Encore 2 Windows 8.1 tablets both use quad-core Intel Atom processors with up to 2GB of RAM, can be configured with up to 64Gb of storage, and can increase the capacity by up to 128GB by microSD. Toshiba claims both devices offer up to ten hours of battery life for general use, up to 8 hours on video playback, though the exact capacities for each were not advised. While relatively similar in terms of specification, the 10-inch model weighs 19.75 ounces and includes an extra Micro HDMI port, while the 8-inch is a lighter 14.07 ounces and does not have the extra video option.
Toshiba will start shipping the Excite Go in early July for $110. Out at around the same time, the Encore 2 10-inch will start from $250, while the 8-inch version configurable from $200.
