Swedish Police confirm Sunde's arrest based on warrant issued in 2012

One of the co-founders of the torrent site The Pirate Bay was arrested on this weekend on a warrant issued in 2012. Peter Sunde was picked up in Sweden on Saturday stemming from his conviction of aiding in copyright infringement by a Stockholm court in April 2009. Sunde was thought to have been living in Germany according to Swedish media.

Sunde was arrested in the Swedish county of Skåne under the details of a report from Reuters. Previously Sunde acted as the spokesman for The Pirate Bay, but has been on the run since failing to appear at the prison he was set to serve out his sentence. An article on the arrest from Torrentfreak indicates that Sunde was picked up as part of a collaborative raid on a farm by Swedish and Polish police. Swedish law enforcement later confirmed Sunde's arrest.

"We have been looking for him since 2012," said Swedish National Police Board spokeswoman Carolina Ekéus. "He was given eight months in jail, so he has to serve his sentence."

With the arrest of Sunde, three of the four members of The Pirate Bay charged with copyright violation have been faced with serving out their time. The Swedish court handed out a judgment of a year in jail for each of the parties involved and over $4 million in fines. The fine was later raised to more than $6 million, but each of the convicted parties would see the sentence reduced to eight months. Only Fredrik Neij is still at large.

Several attempts have been made by those convicted to re-examine the case, including Sunde's attempts through the European Court of Human Rights in 2013 and second plea to the Swedish Supreme Court re-open the case. The Swedish court refused the request to re-open the case earlier this month.
