Corsair gives details on high-speed Flash Voyager GTX USB 3.0 drive

USB 3.0 memory stick adds SSD technology and capacity starting at $120

A new portable storage option was presented by Corsair today, aimed at consumers that need to be able to hold a lot of data in their pocket and access it quickly. The Flash Voyager GTX USB 3.0 drive puts the technology and capacity of a solid state drive (SSD) in a memory stick. The flash drive will be available in common SSD sizes, including 128GB and 256GB capacities, when it releases in July.

The Flash Voyager GTX USB drive adds versatility and SSD performance wherever users need it. The drive features transfer speeds of 450MB per second read and 350MB per second write over USB 3.0. Data from the company puts the ATTO benchmark speeds at an increase of over 2.3 times the read speed and over 6.5 times the write speed of the Flash Voyager USB 3.0 drive. Corsair says that it is the fastest USB flash drive from the company to date. If the numbers are repeatable at the consumer level, the transfer rates will line up with some SSDs on the market.

This makes some sense, considering the Flash Voyager GTX drive uses similar technology. The flash drive makes use of TRIM, allowing the drive to wipe sections of memory that aren't in use, like a solid state drive. Other features include USB Attached SCSI to support the faster transfer speeds and SMART monitoring. It also supports USB 2.0.

Thanks to the size of the drive, users can put entire operating systems, large video files or any number of things onto the drives. Pricing for the two configurations of the Flash Voyager GTX USB drives are marked at $120 for the 128GB model and $200 for the 256GB stick.
