Tado looking to raise funding for HomeKit support

Two more companies, Tado and Big Ass Fans, have announced iOS-compatible products related to home air conditioning. The Tado Cooling is a smart thermostat for AC units that recently completed its Kickstarter funding. The company is now aiming to raise an extra $50,000, however, in order to support HomeKit, Apple's home automation platform built into iOS 8.

The company says that the combination of HomeKit and its iOS app should allow people to make use of features like TouchID and Siri voice commands. The latter might be used to put an AC unit to sleep, for example, or set a specific temperature. TouchID might be configurable to give a small boost to cooling.

Big Ass Fans has meanwhile announced the Haiku, dubbed the world's first smart ceiling fan. Over time the fan can adapt to a person's preferences based on things like room occupancy and detected weather conditions. A companion iOS app handles tasks like setting control modes and schedules, as well as grouping fans together.

If need be the fan can operate with a direct Wi-Fi connection instead of going through a local Wi-Fi network. The Haiku hasn't been announced as supporting HomeKit, but could in theory adopt the feature later.

Big Ass Fans is currently accepting preorders for 52- and 60-inch versions of the Haiku, at prices starting at $1,045. Adding a smart LED light costs an extra $95.
