Motorola to run two-week Moto X trial for one penny

On June 9th only, people will be able to order a Moto X for a penny and try it out for two weeks, Motorola has announced. As a part of the promotion, people will be able to build a custom design using MotoMaker, just as they would if they were buying the device outright. It's unknown however if Motorola will allow wood backs, which normally cost extra, and it will presumably block engraving as an option.

Another question is how the company will deal with the end of the trial period. The likely case is that Motorola will use the credit card number from the penny transaction to charge full price if a phone isn't returned.

Motorola is believed to be trying to clear out stock of the Moto X ahead of revealing the Moto X+1. Another incentive may be the coming closure of the US plant where the Moto X is built.
