SteelSeries reveals Stratus XL Bluetooth iOS game controller

Stratus XL increased in size compared to SteelSeries Stratus

SteelSeries has unveiled a full-sized console-style game controller said to be designed for iOS devices. Following on from the earlier Stratus controller, the Stratus XL is effectively a bigger version of its Bluetooth-based predecessor, increasing the size of the main controller body and some controls, while also adding extra arm grips for extra comfort.

Dual analog sticks, a pressure-sensitive directional pad, and four pressure-sensitive action buttons adorn the front of the Stratus XL, while two pressure-sensitive shoulder buttons and two analog triggers sit at the top. A set of red LED indicators show the number of controllers involved in a multiplayer game, allowing up to four controllers on a single device, while a dedicated pairing button starts the Bluetooth connection with a host device. While it uses standard AA batteries, and offers a battery life indicator and a power button, it is claimed to last up to 40 hours before needing a replacement power source.

The controller is an iOS-only device, with it being compatible with the iPhone 5 or later, iPad mini, iPad Air, the 4th generation iPad, and 5th generation iPod touch running iOS 7. SteelSeries has yet to offer pricing or release details for the Stratus XL.
