Ringly launches phone-connected smartrings

updated 12:47 pm EDT, Tue June 10, 2014

Lights, vibrations notify users of calls, texts, notifications

A new company, Ringly, has announced a series of self-named smartrings aimed at iPhone and Android device owners. Similarly to smartwatches, the rings notify wearers about incoming phone calls, texts, and notifications, as well as whether a person is about to leave their phone behind. The main difference is that since the rings lack displays, users are alerted by customizable light and vibration patterns.

The rings last for three days on a charge, and are made of 18 karat gold topped with semi-precious stones. Black onyx, emerald, pink sapphire, and rainbow moonstone versions are available, in sizes 6, 7, and 8. To set up alerts a person has to download a special app.

A special pre-order campaign beginning today is offering the rings for $145 each. The first 1,000 rings sold will include a real diamond in their sides.
