Pictures of Galaxy S5, S5 Mini show small reduction in size, similar appearance
The smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has reportedly leaked, seemingly showing it to have a similar set of features to the full-size version. Pictured next to the Galaxy S5 for size comparison purposes, the Galaxy S5 Mini appears to have made only a few external changes, keeping the appearance of its stablemate, including the textured back cover.
Pictures from SamMobile and benchmark screenshots state it runs an Exynos 3 Quad system-on-chip processor clocked at 1.4GHz, a quad-core Mali-400 M4 GPU, 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of expandable storage, hidden behind a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display. On the back is an 8-megapixel camera, with it and the front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera both able to shoot 1080p video. Gorilla Glass 3 protection, a fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and other smartphone staples also make an appearance, and while there is no covering flap for the USB port, it is said to have IP67 water and dust protection.
Running on Android KitKat with the TouchWiz overlay, it apparently includes software introduced in the main S5, including its Ultra Power Saving Mode and a Kids mode.
A launch date is unknown, but considering Samsung is holding a Galaxy Tab-related event tomorrow, the manufacturer could opt to unveil it there. Even if it doesn't reveal it at the event, the images suggest the device could be on the way much sooner than initially thought.
