Microsoft Surface Mini leaks in Surface Pro 3 online manuals

updated 11:53 am EDT, Fri June 20, 2014

Manual mistake suggests Surface Mini still in development

Microsoft has accidentally let slip the Surface Mini tablet is still being worked on by the company. Online manuals for the now-released Surface Pro 3 include references to the Surface Mini in places where it should state the correct product name, suggesting Microsoft is using one of the device manuals to create another for the other Windows tablet.

The manual spotted by Paul Thurrott mentions the Surface Mini directly four times: three times in relation to the Surface Pen, and once for locking the screen rotation of the tablet. None of the images in the manual appear to depict the Surface Mini, but the sections the references exist in the manual strongly suggest the Surface Mini will use the same Surface Pen as the full-size version.

According to earlier rumors, the Surface Mini could have a 7.5-inch 1080p display, as well as LTE connectivity. There were claims Microsoft was preparing to reveal the Mini at the same time as the Surface Pro 3, though a Bloomberg report at the time claims Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella decided the device wasn't different enough from its rivals, and so pulled it from launch at the last minute.
