Philips' two new PowerSensor displays reduce energy consumption up to 80 precent

Philips has announced two new PowerSensor displays that detect user presence so as to conserve energy consumption. By automatically reducing monitor brightness when users step away from the display, the PowerSensor displays reduce energy usage by up to 80 percent. Available in 24- and 27-inch screen sizes, the displays utilize LCD backlighting for dimming control. The 24-inch display is priced at $250, and the 27-inch at $350.

Dulux launches room color visualizing app

Paint company Dulux has launched a new app for iOS and Android devices that allows users to virtually paint a room. Dulux Visualizer uses an augmented reality technology that simulates a colour change to existing wall color, live. Using a mobile device's camera, Dulux Visualizer detects edges, surfaces and contour changes, as well as the difference between wall space, furniture and other fixtures as to not colour an entire image. Any of Dulux's 1,200 paint colours are available to select from, and if a color is chosen, tester pots can be ordered directly through the app. The Dulux Visualizer is available through iTunes and Google Play.

Phillips monitor uses DisplayPort but only USB2 ports. Resolution is only HD (1920x1080) so other than power usage and fact it is built from mainly recycled plastic, it isn't of much use for most Mac users.
