Apple updates iOS to 7.1.2, fixes problems with Mail security

updated 01:35 pm EDT, Mon June 30, 2014

Deals with missing encryption for Mail attachments

(Updated with Apple TV news) Apple has released iOS 7.1.2 to the public via iTunes and over-the-air distribution. The update is only a maintenance release, solving several bugs. Most significantly, it solves a problem with iOS 7 failing to encrypt Mail attachments.

The other main fixes address iOS' hooks for external hardware. One improves stability and connections for iBeacons, while a second deals with data transfers for accessories such as barcode scanners. Over the air, v7.1.2 is a 30MB patch for iPads, and 32MB for iPhones. As an iTunes "combo" download, the complete file is 1.4GB.

Update: Apple TV 6.2 firmware has also been released, but no major changes have been listed.
