Sony Vaio Flip 11A recalled, users urged to power down immediately

updated 04:06 pm EDT, Wed July 2, 2014

Users directed to contact Sony for assessment; consequent repair or refund

After a handful of malfunctions of the Sony Vaio Flip 11A, the company has issued a recall for the device, with dramatic wording. Users are directed to immediately cease using the convertible tablet/laptop, and contact Sony for information on how to arrange for an inspection and a repair to the device, or a full refund of the purchase price.

The Vaio Flip in question is model number SVF11N13CXS. The device was sold at US retailers and online this year, between February and April. The device was one of Sony's last Vaio computers, and was discontinued when Sony's computer division was sold to Japan Industrial Partners.

The full recall notice declares that "consumers should immediately stop using the recalled personal computers, shut it down and unplug it, and contact Sony for instructions on how to arrange for an inspection free of charge to the consumer and a free repair or full refund of the computer's purchase price."

Consumers with afflicted devices are directed to call 866-702-7669 for diagnosis. The recall is related to fire, melting, and the chance of electric shock.
