HTC returns to profit in first financial results after One M8 launch

HTC One M8 sales may have helped HTC revenues double for quarter

HTC's finances have turned around, thanks in part to the HTC One M8. The company's latest unaudited quarterly financial results claim to have made its first profit on a year, turning around last quarter's net loss of NT$1.88 billion ($62.8 million) to a small profit of NT$2.26 billion ($75.5 million), mostly due to a doubling of revenue compared to the last period.

Revenues in the quarter reached NT$65.06 billion ($2.17 billion), up from the NT$33.12 billion ($1.10 billion) it earned previously. While this is positive for the company, it is still below the NT$70.7 billion ($2.36 billion) in revenues HTC brought in for the same period last year.

The last quarter's results predated the release of the HTC One M8 itself, with the device likely to have been the reason behind the higher revenues, though HTC has yet to confirm this is the case, nor has it provided sales figures. It remains to be seen if HTC can build upon this success for the rest of 2014, as it has yet to confirm any major releases of a similar level to the M8. Rumors suggest there to be a "Prime" version of the M8 on the way, but HTC has unveiled the HTC One E8, effectively a plastic body version of the M8 destined for sale in China.
