Flagship phone comes out on AT&T ahead of competitors, G Watch at discount
LG's new phone, the G3 and the company's first Android Wear entry, the G Watch, will be available to AT&T customers starting tomorrow. While the availability starts as a pre-order for the G3, retail locations are said to offer the devices on July 11. The announcement follows news from Sprint and T-Mobile that they would offer the G3, but AT&T is the first carrier to make it available to consumers.
"We've been working diligently to be the first US carrier to offer the brand new LG G Watch, and among the first to offer the LG G3 smartphone," said Senior Vice President of Devices at AT&T Jeff Bradley. "AT&T offers one of the largest and best selections of LG devices, and these products take our device portfolio to the next level. The LG G3 is a cutting-edge device and our first in a next-gen Quad HD display."
AT&T beats Sprint and T-Mobile to the market with the LG phone by five and seven days, respectively. The carrier says that it won't require any money down for the G3 pre-order or annual contract, depending on the route taken. Under a two-year contract, the G3 costs consumers $199. Through AT&T Next, the cost changes to $29 per month for 18 months or $24 per month for 12 months.
The carrier didn't indicate the storage sizes the phone would be sold in in the release, but it told BGR that it would only be available in a 32GB storage version with 3GB of RAM. Further specs of the phone consist of a 5.5-inch quad HD display, 13 megapixel camera, a 3,000 mAh battery and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 system-on-a-chip (SoC) processor.
The G Watch can be ordered for a price of $229 when AT&T puts the listing live. The pricing matches up to the Google Play listing of the G Watch, where consumers can order from now. The watch is one of the first Android Wear devices to hit the market, along with the Samsung Gear Live.
The G Watch features a 1.65-inch display that is "always-on" and a 400 mAh battery. It contains 4GB of internal storage, with 512 MB of RAM, and is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor. The smartwatch is resistant to dust and water, as it's rated IP67 allowing up to three feet of submersion for up to 30 minutes.
As part of the launch, AT&T is also offering a discount on premium accessories from LG. The limited promotion features a 50 percent discount on items like the tone Ultra Bluetooth Stereo Headset and the G3 Quick Circle Folio Case. However, AT&T notes that the G Watch is eligible for the discount. The catch is customers have to pre-order or purchase the LG G3 or G Flex with a two-year contract or on AT&T Next. Discounts are limited to one item per phone.
