Notebook focused on gaming power with Intel Core i7 processor, SSD raid setup

Computer hardware manufacturer MSI released a beefy new notebook today that's positioned to be a "desktop replacement" for gamers. The new 17.3-inch GT72 Dominator Pro notebook packs its power in a one-body aluminum case to give gamers the hardware they need to step into a game in any location.

"The GT72 Dominator Pro will turn heads with its ultra-sleek design and drop jaws with its pixel-shredding performance," said MSI Pan America President Andy Tung. "The completely redesigned flagship gaming notebook incorporates the heralded elements of previous GT versions into a brand new chassis that maximizes performance and user experience."

MSI is releasing the GT72 Dominator Pro in two different configurations that only slightly differ from one another. One model, the GT72 Dominator Pro-007, contains 32GB of DDR3L RAM with four 128GB solid state drives (SSD) in a Raid 0 configuration. The GT72 Dominator Pro-010 reduces the RAM to 24GB and the number of 128GB SSDs in the notebook to two.

Both machines include an Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor at 2.5 GHz plugged into an Intel HM87 chipset. Graphics are powered by an Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M with 8GB of DDR5 RAM. Standard features include a 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive, Blu-Ray burner, six USB 3.0 ports, two mini DisplayPorts, one HDMI port, an SD card reader and a nine-cell battery. Each Dominator Pro model uses a cooling based on the system used on MSI's Twin Frozr video cards.

The display inside the GT72 Dominator Pro notebooks is 17.3 inches, running full HD at 1920 x 1080. It also includes a 1080p webcam, Dynaudio high fidelity speakers and subwoofer, a SteelSeries programmable backlit keyboard and Killer DoubleShot Pro networking. A series of quick launch keys line the left side of the notebook allowing quick access to XSplit Gamecaster, the SteelSeries engine and graphics and cooling tools.

To go along with the performance of a "desktop replacement" comes a hefty price tag for both models of the GT72 Dominator Pro notebooks. The GT87 Dominator Pro-010 starts at $2,600, while the GT87 Dominator Pro-007 model jumps up to $3,000.
