Thin Gionee smartphone sacrifices specification for compact body
China could soon see the release of what may be the world's thinnest smartphone. A listing with Chinese regulator TENAA confirms an Android device from Gionee with the model number GN9005 is on the way, with its thickness of just 5mm (0.2 inches) being half a millimeter thinner than the company's own Elife S5.5, and two thirds of the thickness of the iPhone 5s.
While it is extremely thin, the smartphone will have less than stellar specifications, reports Engadget. On the front is a 4.8-inch 720p display with a 5-megapixel camera, while an e-megapixel rear camera with flash rests on the back, and inside is a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 2,050mAh battery.
The price and the release date for the Gionee GN9005 remains unknown, but the photographs show it will be going on China Mobile in the future. It is unlikely for Gionee to ship the smartphone outside of the country.
