5.5-inch iPhone might wait until later showcase
Apple is "tentatively" scheduling a press event for mid-September to reveal the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and final launch details of iOS 8, sources say. The people add that the second and third weeks of September are the most likely target, but that uncertainties about manufacturing timetables are a factor. The 5.5-inch iPhone may also be shown at the event, but that has likewise yet to be decided.
Regarding iOS 8, the sources say that Apple is almost finished with the firmware, and is planning to release a fifth -- and probably final -- beta to developers on August 4th. A gold master should be finished by late August or early September, something necessary for carrier testing as well as installing the OS onto production iPhone 6 units.
Another event is claimed to be underway for October. While it should include modest updates to the iPad lineup, such as Touch ID sensors and faster processors, the focus is expected to be on the long-awaited iWatch.
