Comic Con reveal shows reworked cutscenes from Blur, gameplay footage leaked

During a panel at San Diego Comic Con last week, new footage from Halo: The Master Chief Collection was shown off by a number of people involved with the Microsoft project, including Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor. A new video was released by the company, offering a first look at the new cinematics completely remade for high definition. Leaked gameplay footage from the panel has turned up as well, showing off some of the in-game changes.

First announced during the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year, Halo: The Master Chief Collection bundles together all of the games in the franchise that revolve around the super soldier. The collection, which is being released for Xbox One in November, combines Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 in one easy-to-navigate package. During the announcement, it was revealed that Halo 2 would be getting the same anniversary treatment as Halo: CE did in 2011.

At the panel, footage from the re-mastered campaign where showed off, including some of the changes and the ability to switch the graphics from the new version to the older look on-the-fly. Making use of a button on the Xbox One controller, the looks can be toggled instantaneously while the game is being played. The panel also added that there are over 4,000 achievements in the game.

Footage from the panel turned up on YouTube yesterday from The Spawn Point Blog. In two videos, the toggling of the graphics is shown in real time, as well as the menu system being put on display to show a number of playlists and other items.

Fans were also treated to a new cinematic trailer featuring completely overhauled cutscenes for the anniversary version of Halo 2. Blur, the studio responsible for the cinematics in Halo 4 and Star Wars: The Old Republic, was given the reigns to update the existing scenes for high definition.

As part of the new footage of the game, as shown off by the studio in charge of the franchise -- 343 Industries and Certain Affinity, a developer working on the project -- revealed that some classic maps were getting an update. Ascension, Coagulation and Zanzibar are all being re-imagined as part of an update to six multiplayer maps from Halo 2.

In addition to the other news from the remastered collection, the first footage from Halo: Nightfall was revealed at the convention. The live-action TV series is being produced by famed director Ridley Scott.
