KDDI launches Butterfly J in Japan with HTC One internals, 13MP camera

Waterproofing, higher-resolution Duo Camera in Japan-specific HTC Butterfly J

A new version of the HTC One M8 for the Japanese market has been announced by local carrier KDDI. The HTC J Butterfly manages to hold on to the majority of the One M8's specifications, including its five-inch 1080p display, but stems down the same route as the One E8 in having a plastic body, with the Japan-specific smartphone also having a few more minor changes.

Inside is a quad-core Snapdragon 801 with 2GB of RAM, reports PhoneArena, along with a front-facing 5-megapixel camera, LTE-Advanced support for cellular speeds of up to 150Mbit, and a 2,700mAh battery. Unlike the One M8, the J Butterfly is waterproof to the IPX7 standard, and while it has the M8's Duo Camera system, the main Ultrapixel sensor has been replaced by a standard 13-megapixel version.



The HTC J Butterfly is shipping in Japan this August for an unknown price, and will be compatible with various HTC One M8 accessories, such as the Dot View case. While it is unlikely to go on sale elsewhere immediately, previous Japanese HTC devices have surfaced under different names in other markets, so it is possible the J Butterfly could do the same.
