HP plans Michael Bastian luxury smartwatch launch for this fall

Designer HP smartwatch said to have interchangeable straps, stainless steel casing

HP will be joining the race to produce smartwatches, by working on a high-end wrist-based device. Working with American fashion designer Michael Bastian, HP will apparently concentrate on the engineering aspects of the timepiece, and though relatively few details about the item have been leaked, it is believed the device will take the form of a typical wristwatch rather than the screen-based design the majority of on-the-market smartwatches have taken.

Hypebeast claims the watch will have a 44mm (1.7-inch) stainless steel case with a multi-layered finish, multiple external buttons, a lit chronograph, and three interchangeable bands. While it will connect to an iOS or Android device, and will use a companion app to manage its features, it is likely to take a design cue from the Withings Activité and not have a typical digital display at all.

The HP-Bastian smartwatch will apparently ship sometime in the fall for an unknown price, with Gilt apparently being the first to sell it.
