Smartwatch from Timex includes messaging, emergency texting

Watch manufacturer Timex is attempting to enter the smartwatch market, by collaborating with Qualcomm and AT&T. The Ironman One GPS+ aims to provide typical smartwatch and GPS running watch functions, though instead of relying on a Bluetooth connection with a smartphone for data, it will instead use its own cellular connection.

Using a touch-enabled and always-on 1.5-inch Mirasol display with a resolution of 288x192, the Ironman One GPS+ is able to send and receive messages, as well as transmit data to various workout apps, using its 3G radio. Its GPS will keep track of speed and distance traveled, among other running-related statistics, with its "Find Me Mode" able to send emergency messages to specific contacts, including details of the wearer's location. Water-resistant to 50 meters (164 feet), it also includes 4GB of storage and works with Bluetooth speakers and headphones, allowing for music playback during runs.

Timex is aiming to ship the Ironman One GPS+ this fall for $400, with one year of AT&T service also included for US and Canadian editions.
