Pinterest adds direct messaging of followers to service

Pinterest has added the ability to message other users to its service for the first time. An extension from last year's pin-sharing feature, Pocket-Lint notes the social network's mobile apps include the option to send messages back in responses to pins, including support for messaging multiple followers in the same thread, with the site suggesting it could be useful for planning events or projects with others.

Facebook Mentions app now available in more than 40 countries

Facebook has made its Mentions mobile app for iOS available outside the United States. The Next Web reports the app is downloadable in more than 40 countries, and is still only available to verified accounts owned by celebrities and corporations. As the name implies, Mentions is a customized version of the Facebook mobile app which highlights mentions of the user, as well as providing lists of trending topics, and the ability to take part in live Q&A sessions with fans and other regular Facebook members.
