Device Unlock only works with one T-Mobile smartphone
T-Mobile is now allowing customers to unlock their smartphones, though in a limited number of cases. Using a rumored app called Device Unlock, owners of the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy Avant are able to unlock their devices relatively simply and at no charge, though it appears only one smartphone model has been enabled to use the app at present.
Spotted in the Google Play Store by Android Police, the app will install to any T-Mobile phone, including devices that have previously gone through an unlocking process, were sold unlocked, or were not bought from T-Mobile itself. The app does offer users a permanent unlocking of the device, though there is the option of a temporary unlock meant for international travel, allowing the user to take advantage of local SIMs.
Despite the app's existence and usability on the Galaxy Avant, customers will still need to meet T-Mobile's eligibility requirements before being able to unlock the phone. It is also likely T-Mobile will make the app usable on other smartphones in the future, though it is not known when this might occur.
