Warlords of Draenor release set for a November 13, one week after BlizzCon
Residents of Azeroth no longer need to wait in anguish for their next series of adventures. Blizzard Entertainment announced today that the fifth expansion for the massive multiplayer online (MMO) role-playing game World of Warcraft is going to be released later this year. During a live event in Los Angeles, Blizzard said gamers could expect Warlords of Draenor on November 13.
Warlords of Draenor's release will come just a week after this year's BlizzCon, ensuring that the excitement over the game will be a fever pitch during the two-day event starting on November 7. The release is also 10 days shy of World of Warcraft's 10-year anniversary. The expansion builds on the the lore and events that unfolded during the last expansion, Mists of Pandaria.
"Players will encounter an epic cast of legendary characters and a huge amount of content to explore in Warlords of Draenor," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime. "The countdown to the arrival of one of the greatest threats in Warcraft history has begun. We can't wait to send everyone through the Dark Portal this November."
Blizzard also unloaded another film-quality opening video in the process, the first cinematic that has been released from the expansion. The events of the video take place 35 years prior to the current timeline of Azeroth, leading up to the establishment of the warlords and the construction of the Dark Portal.
In addition to the date and cinematic reveal, Blizzard also premiered the first episode of Lords of War, an animated miniseries that fills in some of the lore surrounding the Warlords of Draenor expansion. The first episode tells the story of the creation of the Shattered Hand.
Warlords of Draenor brings a wealth of new content to the MMO, starting with a level cap increase from 90 to 100. Players will also be able to build a garrison, which can be customized and grows as players do. New zones, dungeons, raids, challenge modes, player versus player options and factions have been added to give players additional content to pour through.
Pricing for Warlords of Draenor was announced as well, with the digital standard edition costing gamers $50. A deluxe digital edition will also be available for $70. Players that pre-purchase either version get a perk that allows them to bring one character up to level 90 ahead of the expansion. A deluxe retail edition is priced at $90, giving Warcraft fans some extras including a hardcover art book, a behind-the-scenes two-disc Blu-Ray/DVD set, a CD soundtrack and a mouse pad. No mention of a collector's edition-specific pet was mentioned.
