Sony SmartWatch 3 allegedly includes Wi-Fi connection for standalone usage

Sony's latest iteration in its SmartWatch range will have a higher resolution but a similar design language to the SmartWatch 2, according to a rumor. The SmartWatch 3 will continue to have a rectangular display, and will also use the same transflective LCD technology, one that relies more on ambient light than a backlight, in order to save battery life.

G for Games claims the interface of the SmartWatch 3 will be different from its predecessor, though it will use its own operating system instead of adopting Android Wear, something the manufacturer has already stressed. The watch is also said to include its own Wi-Fi module, allowing it to work on its own without being linked to a smartphone via Bluetooth, with the device also including wireless charging support, and will be water and dust-proof.

Though a launch date is unknown, it is believed Sony will show off the SmartWatch 3 during IFA next month.
