EA adds PS4 CoachGlass, but drops Madden 15 demo, limits early access

Yearly demo nixed in favor of limited EA Access playtime, adds CoachGlass for PS4

Electronic Arts (EA) has pulled an interesting move with the upcoming Madden 15 and its EA Access program recently, making the subscription program the only way gamers can try out the football title before it is formally released: the company is abandoning its yearly demo trend to give Xbox One owners the chance only to play the game before its August 26 release. News of the demo's absence comes from a Twitter exchange with EA Sports Community Manager Andrew Johnson, who stated no demo was coming.

In essence, this means that those that want to try Madden 15 out before they buy it will have to shell out $5 for a month or $30 for a year of the Xbox One program. An EA spokesperson told Polygon that the decision to drop the demo was difficult, but it was done to focus on the game. While it was originally stated that EA would offer new games up to five days prior to their release in the service, there appears to be a limit to it for Madden.

The EA Access Twitter account pointed out that subscribers would be limited to only "six gameplay hours" for Madden 15. EA clarified yesterday that the six hours would be measured in real time. Access to the full version of the game for EA Access patrons starts on August 21. The company does say that any progress made in the trial carries over if consumers decide to purchase the game.

EA also announced that it is bringing the CoachGlass to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, ending the Microsoft exclusive for the second-screen app. CoachGlass has a new look, which EA states was made to make data "more easily digestible" without being a distraction. Much of the design was inspired by the "playcall layout" in Madden 15.
